Vodafone, the no.1 network in Egypt, participates in Cairo ICT Conference and Exhibition’s 23^rd edition, aimed at promoting the “digital experience” of Egyptians. Cairo ICT 2019 comes under the patronage and in the presence of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Vodafone has always been keen on participating in Cairo ICT 2019, and this year’s participation is aimed at demonstrating Vodafone’s achievements in fields contributing to the digital transformation including; infrastructure, network, IT, telehealth remote solutions and applications.

Being a proud partner of the government in the Health Insurance Program, Vodafone highlighted their role by displaying a simulation of the program’s most recent updates. Vodafone’s part in the program is dedicated to the mechanization of the different services provided by the health insurance system. It has also showcased a set of solutions in the healthcare sector as well as other sectors to achieve digital transformation and fulfill Egypt’s aims towards the improvement of the citizens’ lives and achieving sustainable development.

Froment expressed his pride in taking part in the Comprehensive Health Insurance Program, as the government’s tech solutions provider and partner, highlighting the importance of the collaboration between public and private sectors.

“In such a short time, we were able to transform Port Said into a city that supports digital comprehensive health insurance,” Froment further added, stressing Vodafone’s dedication to continue in supporting digital transformation and expanding their collaboration for this end.

Moreover, the External Affairs and Legal Director, Ayman Essam said, “Such collaborations are a great example on the growth of the sector, providing more citizens with digital solutions that facilitate their lives. It also serves the aims of our initiative that enhances digital transformation and the integration of technology in vital sectors,”

Essam further clarified that the main objective of this project is to better the healthcare services in Egypt and deploying the latest telehealth technologies using advanced technology.

During Cairo ICT 2019, Vodafone displayed their tech solutions invested in the health insurance program including, IoT and telehealth services. These technologies were manifested in a simulation of an emergency vehicle that includes telemedicine unit. Furthermore, Vodafone demonstrated their application for video communication with doctors and specialists and the electronic database. These applications are aimed at developing the diagnosis process and reaching more patients in remote and rural areas. With these tech solutions, patients will have better access to healthcare centers and seek help in a more efficient and timely manner.

Visitors of Vodafone’s pavilion are taken on a tour to learn how to use the remote healthcare solutions known as; telehealth services. The Care Central telemedicine station operates through an electronic medical record that displays the patient's reports and medical history while adhering to security and privacy standards. The patient then receives the diagnosis results and the suitable electronic prescription. Furthermore, the patient can make visual interactive communication with specialists via the VIRTUAL EXAM ROOM, and through the Medical Tablet.

Vodafone’s pavilion also showcased its Medical Robotic Call Center, a robot-based customer service dedicated for patients. These robots are designed to process medical inquires and communicate with the patient to detect the symptoms in order to facilitate the process of diagnosis and medication. This helps save time and efforts spent in diagnosis and eliminates wait time in clinics, awaiting medical consultancy.

Alexander Froment: Expansion reflects Vodafone Group’s dedication towards the Egyptian market that displays more stable economic atmosphere and booming investment scene

Cairo, Egypt XX Nov. 2019: In the light of the economic stability and promising investment atmosphere the Egyptian market witnesses, Vodafone Group announced their plans to expand their outsourcing services in the market and enhance their presence by acquiring Vodafone Shared Services in Egypt (VSSE). The one-billion-Egyptian-pound acquisition deal was unfolded during a press conference held on XXXX in the presence of the CEO of Vodafone Egypt, Alexander Froment, Head of Vodafone Shared Services, Gary Andy, as well as Head of Foreign Relations and Legal Affairs Sector Ayman Essam, and Vodafone Shared Services Customer Care Director, Amany Rabea.

During the conference, CEO of Vodafone Egypt, Alexander Froment, stated that Vodafone Group’s acquisition of Vodafone Shared Services in Egypt shows stresses the trust it has in the Egyptian market and the economic reform policies. Froment even praised the economic stability Egypt witnesses now and the promising investment opportunities the market offers, making Egypt an attractive destination for businesses lead by Vodafone Group. He also highlighted VSSE’s achievements contributing to the flourishing outsourcing field in Egypt making its performance a benchmark for outsourced customer services for its peers.

Head of Vodafone Shared Services, Gary Andy, said: “The technological sector in egypt is gaining more momentum to become the center of attention for many international companies and organizations especially in the outsourcing field and customer service and technical support. Vodafone Shared Services started operating in Egypt in 2002 with limited labor force of only 400 employees, to become the number one company in Egypt and the world in the outsourcing field. Furthermore, VSSE delivers the best services by adopting unique, fresh, and young talents. There are more than 22000 employees working in outsourcing services in Egypt, Europe and India collectively. Egypt only has three locations for operations in Cairo, Giza and Alexandria.

Vodafone Egypt, Faculty of Agriculture sign cooperation protocol to plant one million trees and develop smart agriculture research

In the presence of President of Cairo University Dr. Mohamed Othman El-Khosht, Vodafone Egypt signed a cooperation protocol with Cairo University’s Faculty of Agriculture to launch "Green Egypt" project, aiming to plant one million trees in four years. The project’s objective is to develop and support smart agriculture research. It is supervised by faculty professors, executed by agriculture students and technicians, and funded by Vodafone Egypt.

The signing Ceremony was attended by Vice President of Cairo University, Dr. Amr Mustafa Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Alexander Froment-Curtil CEO and Managing Director of Vodafone Egypt, Eng. Emad El Azhary, Head of Planning & Business Development of Vodafone Egypt, Eng. Osama Said Head of Vodafone Egypt, Noha Saad Head of External Communications & Media, as well as Mahira Hassan, Head of Sustainable Development & Secretary General of Vodafone Egypt Foundation, in addition to professors of the Faculty of Agriculture.

“Green Egypt project is of great importance and we are keen to implement it, not only to achieve an environmental balance and curb air pollution, but also to create new job opportunities that engage citizens in environment preservation cause,” said Dr. Mohamed El-Khosht, President of Cairo University.

Dr. Amr Mostafa, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, who signed the agreement, said that the launch of "Green Egypt" project aims to train students of the Faculty of Agriculture and achieve long-term economic and environmental goals. He added that the initiative produces more than a million olive trees and about 10 thousand citrus and mango trees to achieve the company's objectives in the service of the environment and contribute to the balance between several educational goals through training more than 2,500 students annually.

Egypt, Cairo- September 2019: In light of the rapid technological boom, Vodafone announced the expansion of their partnership with Dell Technologies to provide Cloud computing services to companies and government agencies, which aligns with the state’s strategy to achieve digital transformation.

Cairo, Egypt – 29 September 2019: Vodafone Egypt has launched the third edition of Hackathon 010 Innovation Competition, an annual event for developers and programmers participating in a four-day camp to find innovative solutions using ICT techniques. This year, Hackathon 010 invites Vodafone employees as well as techies, to develop new projects and ideas that support digital transformation system in Egypt.

“Helm El-Shohra” first mobile service to discover talents

As a pioneer in the telecommunication sector, Vodafone Egypt launched a-first-of- its-kind service “Helm El-Shohra” that connects art with communications through discovering new talents for the Egyptian cinema via the mobile phone.

Vodafone holds its very first AI technological conference

Vodafone Egypt held their very first technological concourse launching “Al Meet Up”, hosting various leaders and experts to conduct workshops and panels, discussing different solutions related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the development of technology in the future.

Being the first of its kinds in the telecommunications field, Vodafone’s “AI Meet Up” comes as part of their efforts to support the state’s vision achieve digital transformation. “AI Meet Up” aims at providing sufficient knowledge of “Artificial Intelligence” and the means of utilizing it in our lives.

The “Al Meet Up” gathering seeks to raise awareness of the importance of “Artificial Intelligence”. This aligns with the country’s digital transformation strategy to achieve 100% usage of “Artificial Intelligence” in various services and data analysis in order to enhance governmental performance and create an innovative working environment by 2030.

The workshop’s discussion panels introduced several AI models, researches, AI and data analysis solutions, in addition to the means to train new calibers in the AI field and solving the challenges facing them. The panels showcased the government’s strategies to keep up with global technological development and the fourth industrial revolution.

The conference hosted several technology specialists, university students, and renowned spokespersons, including Sally Abbas Kamel Radwan, ICT Minister’s Advisor for Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Hani Elgebaly, founder and CEO of AvidBeam Technologies Inc, and Dr. Sameh El Ansary, CEO of Novelari.

Vodafone sponsors Hack4Girlz program to empower women in technology

Vodafone Egypt honored the participating girls in Hack4Girls program, which was launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in collaboration with Microsoft Egypt for girls specializing in the field of programming, databases and information technology.

“It is without a doubt that jobs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics will for sure shape our future. Vodafone has always believed in the importance of empowering women and encouraging them to work in these fields”, stated Emad El Azhary, strategy and Business Development Director in Vodafone Egypt.

“Vodafone believes in the importance of empowering women and supporting them in technology-related field, which is why we’re sponsoring this program. It mainly aims at nourishing girls' technological innovation, raising their awareness of available opportunities in the fields of computer science, as well as enhancing their capabilities to create effective futuristic solutions using technological tools”, El Azhary added.

Through various initiatives and training programs, Vodafone seeks to educate girls and enable them to use information technology tools properly to innovate and develop applications and technological solutions, in order to overcome the challenges and problems facing the Egyptian society.

However, Vodafone continuously launches new initiatives and programs to support women employment especially in the field of telecommunications and information technology. Vodafone earlier launched STEM program for 14- 18 years old girls across 26 countries, benefiting more than 500 girls in Egypt and around the world. The program gives the chance to more than 40 girls in Egypt who excel in programming and technology, in recognition of women's role in implementing the digital transformation process, which the state seeks to achieve.

Minister of Youth and Sports Dr.Ashraf Sobhy witnessed the signing of a joint cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Vodafone to launch a digital platform to support and sponsor entrepreneurial initiatives and projects, as well as providing youth with skills development career guidance in order to be ready for their futures.

The protocol signed between the two parties ensures that Vodafone will pick the best youth calibers from Egyptian schools and universities and various youth groups from civil society organizations in order to join the training and development courses that will be implemented within the company's various sections and departments which will help educate and grow future talents and support society through youth empowerment.

Moreover, the two parties agreed to conduct workshops for girls between the ages of 14 and 18 years to train them on Web Design and Coding, as well as implementing free of charge special talks and discussions online designed to allow youth to get education and training on how to develop and utilize their skills, as well as understand how to build successful career.

Moreover, the cooperation includes support the launch of "Yalla Sharek" -Vodafone’s voluntary program- in more than 4,000 youth centers all over Egypt’s governorates. The program aims to attract steamed volunteers to engage with their community whether through planning, physical effort, or contribution with personal or professional skills, as well as promote environmental programs.

Cairo, Egypt – March 2019:

In their efforts to make their operations more eco-friendly, Vodafone Egypt is targeting a higher percentage of clean energy usage by increasing their dependency on renewable energy from 13% to 100% by 2025. The leading mobile network operator in the Egyptian telecom sector is launching a bid to establish a solar power plant in Egypt, making it the first company to produce energy rather than just consume it.

The plant is expected to produce 20-50 MW with investments of more than EGP 500 mn covering the cost of constructions, energy production and distribution.

Egypt currently seeks becoming a regional electricity hub, through exchanging electricity with neighboring countries and collaborating with leading African ones to export electricity to countries in need. With this in mind, Vodafone’s plan to implement the solar energy plant aims at supporting the Egyptian economy and aligns with the government’s plans to increase the production of renewable energy, which also comes in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Additionally, Vodafone Egypt CEO Alexandre Froment-Curtil, and Chief Financial Officer Rasha El-Azhary, conducted a site visit to the solar power plants in Benban, Aswan; during which they inspected companies participating in Vodafone’s solar plant tender.

Vodafone announces the exclusive sponsorship of ITS

Cairo, Egypt – March 2019:

Vodafone Egypt sponsored the International Telecommunications Society (ITS), held in Egypt for the first time to shed light on the resources in Upper Egypt governorates to explore the opportunities of technological development. H.E Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, inaugurated the conference under the title of "The role of telecommunication technology in stimulating development". The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) organized the event in collaboration with Aswan University, which was held from 18th to 21st of February in Aswan.

ITS represents an opportunity for local and international pioneers, academic researchers, corporate representatives, and government entities, to share expertise in the industry creating a platform to discuss several topics specialized in economic, regulatory, and technical variables.

During his inauguration speech, H.E Dr. Amr Talaat expressed his delight to host the conference, expressing the significance of supporting digital transformation in the country. H.E Dr. Talaat stressed the need to intensify the efforts of government institutions and cooperate with private sector companies to develop the information and communications technology infrastructure and enhance digital services, especially in government entities. This has become one of the main priorities of the ministry, in addition to raising the quality and efficiency of current services provided to citizens.

Vodafone Egypt participated in more than one session, where Engineer Emad Al-Azhary, Strategy & Business Development Director, addressed the importance of sustaining research and developing the technical space in specialized disciplines. He reiterated the role that Vodafone now adopts, as a pioneer in advancing technology through Artificial Intelligence, by offering advanced services, solutions, and applications based on innovative mediums.

In another session, Tamer Basha, Technical Regulatory Affairs Manager at Vodafone, discussed the regulations relative to the 5G network. The deliberation included highlighting the challenges facing its implementation and methods to overcome them making the development of 5G networks as the greatest achievement in the mobile services sector.

In its first edition, ITS conference has been praised with unprecedented success, receiving more than 70 research papers, whilst the number of researchers participating in the event reached 220, 45 of whom were international researchers contributing to the country’s insights.

Winners of the contest danced the night off to latest song of “Al Hadaba”

Cairo, Egypt 21^st February 2019: Vodafone announced the winning couple of its contest #fara7na_bel_hadaba; meaning our wedding with Al Hadaba Amr Diab, to turn their dream wedding into reality where Amr Diab entertained the guests with his latest songs as well as his timeless hits. The contest started with a call for engaged couples to send video clips in which they sing Al Hadaba’s song “Et3alemo” that was part of Amr Daib’s latest album launched in partnership with Vodafone.

With this competition going viral on online mediums, many companies partnered with Vodafone to complement this initiative. Mahgoub was the first to collaborate with Vodafone, where they contributed to the completion of the bride's home, alongside Samo Hagras, who designed the bride’s dress, and the makeup expert Alaa Al-Tounsi that styled the bride’s hair and make-up. Global brand Maybelline presented bridal gifts from all their products lines to the bride and the groom. Famous photographer Ahmed Ragheb sponsored the wedding’s coverage. The groom’s charming appearance was signed by designer Ahmed Fouad, the owner of the brand Mr. Tuxedos. Finally, Kempinski Hotel Royal Maxim Plaza, hosted the night and welcomed the bride and groom’s family and friends.

Guests enjoyed the songs of Amr Diab’s latest album “Kol Hayaty” lit the wedding on fire and made the night an unforgettable experience for everyone.

Cairo, Egypt – 3 February 2019: Vodafone Egypt – the Egyptian telecom operator - launched a charity marathon in collaboration with Banati Foundation, a non-profit organization aiming to help homeless children and especially – 15 year old girls. The organization focuses on reaching homeless children living on the streets of Cairo through assigning regular visits conducted by a team of credible social workers that aims to enhance their social and educational prosperity.

The marathon was attended by Alexandre Froment-Curtil, Vodafone Egypt CEO, Ayman Essam External Affairs & Legal Director, as well as Mahira Hassan, Sustainable Business Secretary Manager, along with a number of Vodafone’s employees and over 3,000 participants.

The run comes as part of Vodafone’s initiative to support Banati Foundation to raise awareness of the cause of homeless girls, shedding light on the foundation’s role in integrating social development in its portfolio of social responsibility. This reflects Vodafone’s strategic efforts in supporting community shared values for a cause that has received limited attention in the past.

Vodafone Egypt CEO, Alexandre Froment-Curtil expressed how this initiative sheds light on Vodafone’s efforts in developing countries stressing the company’s effort to support Egyptian women by helping them lead better lives. He praised Banati Foundation’s role in assisting underprivileged young women and children as well as providing them with enhanced education, shelter, and enhanced standard of living.

The marathon helps reach many citizens of all age groups, especially young people, and encourages them to donate and support Banati Foundation in their pursuit to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in Egyptian society.
