Vodafone Egypt announced that Vodafone Business becomes the official sponsor of Shark Tank, the strongest global reality TV show to discover entrepreneurs and innovators with the best proposals for businesses and startups across all sectors. The TV show that will be aired next January provides funds from a group of the most powerful Egyptian private sector investors to entrepreneurs and innovators who have the best ideas for businesses and startups across all segments and are looking for an opportunity to start their projects or maximize their own investments.
The TV Show launch came within a prestigious ceremony held on December 17th at the Grand Egyptian Museum in the attendance of H.E. The first season of Shark Tank Egypt will be aired exclusively on CBC and WATCH IT platform starting January 2023, in cooperation between United Media Services Company (UMS), the advertising agent POD, IMP Company, and SONY International, which owns the program’s original format. During the TV show, participants will be hosted after presenting their proposals and after the voting process in Vodafone’s RED Room. Vodafone Business has the right to use two golden buzzes to support projects it sees worth continuing the competition.

During his meeting with journalists on December 20th, Mohamed Abdallah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt, revealed that Vodafone Egypt pumped investments of EGP 24 billion over the past two years aiming to improve and develop the Company’s network especially after receiving new frequencies.
"Vodafone Egypt's investment plan is based on several pillars, aiming to develop the quality of network services. One of these key pillars is developing and raising the efficiency of the network’s infrastructure to improve the quality of telecommunications services provided to our customers, and enhance its readiness to provide future ICT services according to international standards."
Abdallah pointed out several other achievements accomplished by Vodafone Egypt in this regard, on top of which is the construction of more than 1000 towers over the past year. In addition, Vodafone Egypt has launched a wide range of services that affirms its constant keenness to meet the needs of 44 million customers. newly launched services contribute mainly to facilitating their daily lives and achieving digital transformation through easy-to-use, safe, and top-notch digital services. One of its latest services is Moneyback, which allows customers to refund their balance through “Ana Vodafone” application. This service is the first of its kind in the telecommunications sector in Egypt and aims to enable customers to manage their balance and the various services they are subscribed to.
Under the auspices of the Ministries of Social Solidarity and Communication & Information Technology Vodafone Egypt Announces the Launch of AI-Based Technologies Hackathon to Help People with Special Needs

In line with Vodafone Egypt’s mission to provide diverse services and facilitate the lives of all individuals, the company has announced the launch of a hackathon based on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to help people with special needs. Held under the auspices of the Ministries of Social Solidarity and Communication & Information Technology, the hackathon will be held over 3 days on January 22nd-24th.
Through the event, Vodafone Egypt becomes the country’s first private sector company to develop tools dedicated to facilitating the lives of persons with special needs through AI-based technology.
“The hackathon is a competition designed for individuals who have ideas for practical and innovative auxiliary tools and need support to turn those ideas into real products. It is an important event where developers who have software development skills gather to participate in the projects or applications that help provide various services in an accessible way for anyone to use,” said Mahmoud El Khateeb, Business Unit Director at Vodafone Egypt. “Anyone with the spirit of innovation to adapt modern technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things), artificial intelligence, or technical development of tools that help people with special needs in their workplace can participate in the hackathon”.
Nagla Kinawi, Human Resources Director at Vodafone Egypt, said “The hackathon is a great opportunity to develop the skills and abilities of young people, by helping and guiding them on how to start implementing their ideas and projects. It is also an important chance to embrace creative ideas that contribute to facilitating the lives of people with special needs, whether in public life or workplace places. The hackathon is aligned with Vodafone Egypt's keenness to employ people with special needs and benefit from their abilities, create opportunities and initiatives that help them unleash their ideas, dreams, and needs, and contribute to the provision of some innovative solutions.”
Registration for the hackathon started on December 25, with qualifiers starting from January 8 to 12. Registration will be available for students in their final academic year and up to the age of 35, provided that applicants are people with special needs, engineering graduates, graduates with financial or marketing academic backgrounds, in addition to Vodafone Egypt employees. Participants will form five teams to compete with each other. The three teams that present innovative and distinguished models will be selected as winners.

Vodafone Egypt Provides Smart Solutions to Raise Water Network Efficiency in Sharm El-Sheikh

Vodafone Egypt held a meeting with Major General Khaled Fouda, the Governor of South Sinai, to showcase some of Vodafone’s smart solutions to help increase the efficiency of the main water network in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh and to better exploit natural resources through the use of solar power to conserve water losses.
The meeting, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, was attended by several Vodafone Egypt representatives, including Eng. Mahmoud El-Khateeb, Vodafone Business Unit Director, Ayman Essam, External Affairs and Legal Director, Omar Mandour, head of Business Department, Ayman El Saadany, Head of Regulatory Affairs and Public Policies, Mrs. Noha Saad, Head of the External Communications and Media Department, with the leaders of the Governorate of South Sinai and the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, headed by Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai and Eng. Enas Samir, Deputy Governor of South Sinai.
Several of these solutions have already been applied and have proven their success in the Central Garden and Al-Nour neighborhoods of Sharm El-Sheikh. This comes in line with the company's constant support of the government’s efforts to better serve society and promote the efficient use of resources as per Egypt's 2030 Vision and in conjunction with the outcomes from COP27.

In line with Egypt Vision 2030 and the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, Vodafone is participating in COP27 Climate Conference as a strategic partner, under the company's belief that this event, hosted by Egypt, is a pivotal opportunity for the world to join forces to accelerate climate action plans.
Vodafone's participation was not limited to sponsoring the event. The company also worked to provide full support to the Egyptian government in preparing the COP27 Climate Change Conference according to the highest standards, starting from developing and upgrading network coverage in Sharm el-Sheikh, to the provision of sophisticated communication services to connect conference participants and visitors by drawing on the latest digital networking technologies. Additionally, His Excellency the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mohamed Shaker El-Markabi, chaired the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Vodafone and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) to initiate discussions on the potential use of renewable electricity generated by the Authority's projects to feed its network.

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and Minister of Environment Dr. Yasmine Fouad, inspected Vodafone pavilion during the first day of the conference, which exhibited prominent technological solutions, applied globally and locally, that support environmental preservation, rationalizing consumption, and the use of renewable sources of energy. Vodafone presented business use cases to model the utilization of these solutions and facilitate visitors' viewing. Farms were selected as a case study to demonstrate the importance of technological solutions and its impact on climate change as well as food security.
In tandem with the COP27 commencement, Vodafone launched an advertising campaign featuring Asser Yassin, under the slogan "Every little act today creates a better tomorrow", to raise public awareness that changing daily habits can have a positive impact on protecting the environment and tackling climate change. The advertising campaign called for reducing the use of plastic, using energy and electricity-saving products, and conserving water consumption to preserve environmental resources. The campaign also showcased Vodafone Egypt’s efforts over the past period to preserve the environment by adopting a sustainable digital strategy within all its branches and sales centers. This includes applying digital bills and waiting lines to reduce paper printing within branches, substituting plastic for paper bags, and converting the company employees’ SIM cards to ECO-SIM cards. The company also launched an awareness campaign prior to the conference, which urged its partners and customers to reduce their environmental footprint and work together to address climate change and its consequences.

One of Vodafone's most key success stories is the VODACOM experience that provides an integrated agricultural platform for farms through MyFarmWeb, that can be used to control and monitor the agricultural process and resource consumption, including energy and water, using IoT solutions. This is in addition to the company's display of the Connected Farmer and AgriTec platforms that connect farms with suppliers and labor, and provide up-to-date information to improve production processes and reduce environmental impact.

Vodafone Egypt becomes 1st telecom company to achieve LEED Gold Green Certification for Green Buildings
Mohammed Abdallah: This Certificate Is a Culmination of the Company's Ongoing Efforts in Improving Energy Efficiency
Vodafone Egypt, the largest mobile network operator in Egypt, has achieved LEED Gold Green certification for the company’s main building in the Smart Village, for the operation and maintenance department. Through this certification, Vodafone becomes one of the first entities to obtain this certificate in the telecommunications sector, leveraging its application of LEED systems in order to achieve sustainability and the establishment of environmentally friendly buildings. This comes as a perpetuation of Vodafone’s effective role in applying environmental sustainability standards, with the aim of enabling the Egyptian society to save energy and establish green cities.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a set of rating systems for evaluating the design and environmental performance of buildings, homes and neighborhoods and it is the most widely used green building classification system in the world today, where it covers almost all types of construction. LEED provides a framework for healthy, efficient, carbon and cost-saving green buildings, where LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement. It is awarded after applying several tests for buildings, and it is classified as a world gold standard indicating that these buildings were designed and built based on LEED systems, which indicates that these buildings are of high efficiency and energy.
Mohamed Abdallah, Chief Executive Officer at Vodafone Egypt said “We are proud of Vodafone obtaining the LEED Gold Green certification, as we believe in the pressing need for preserving the environment and establishing an integrated work system that prioritizes the rationalization of energy use. We aim to secure the requirements of sustainable development, which goes in line with the government’s directions to implement environmental sustainability standards within Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the company’s full and continuous support of the Egypt National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) 2050”.
Abdallah added that this certificate is a culmination of the company’s ongoing efforts in improving energy efficiency and compacting climate change as a perpetuation to complement its national role during COP 27. He also pointed out that Vodafone is one of the first companies committed to reducing carbon emissions for its operations by 2030, and reaching zero carbon emissions in 2040.
The company also is planning to be the first mobile operator to steer with green technology, compatible with 100% environmental preservation during the coming period. This step aims to improve the quality of life of the Egyptian citizens and improving their standards of living within the framework of an integrated and sustainable environmental system.
It is worth mentioning that Vodafone has a track record of distinguished certificates addressing climate change and environmental preservation. It was the first telecom company to receive the ISO 50001 certification for its energy management system last February, to become one of the first companies operating in the telecom sector in Africa and the Middle East to obtain this certificate for applying the best systems in energy management and rationalization.
In addition, Vodafone received a prestigious award from the Energy Efficiency Initiative held by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the United Nations Development Program, and the American Chamber of Commerce in 2018, for implementing a project that reduces electricity consumption.

Vodafone Egypt - the largest mobile operator in Egypt - has launched its first Eco-sim mobile chip, made of 100% recycled plastic materials in an attempt to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Vodafone Egypt is considered one of the first companies to participate in initiatives for reducing carbon emissions from plastic waste to limit the repercussions of climate change, in line with the presidential initiatives and strategy to preserve the environment, as Egypt hosts the COP27 Climate Change Conference. This is to support the efforts of The Ministry of Environment in proposing ideas for the most appropriate ways to include the private sector in environmental work, in terms of profitability and environmental preservation simultaneously, through an organized structure and proper community engagement that ensures the participation of all concerned groups.
Vodafone’s strategy is to encourage sustainable development that aligns with Egypt's Vision 2030, by relying on renewable and clean energy in operating systems and network management, reducing operational carbon emissions, and reaching zero carbon emissions by 2040. In addition to supporting green technology investments by integrating digital technology and environmental elements in the various development sectors to improve the Egyptian citizen’s quality of life and improve their standard of living within an integrated and sustainable ecosystem.
His Excellency Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, acknowledged the importance of this step taken by Vodafone to launch the first mobile chip in Egypt that conforms to environmental specifications, which aligns with the state’s efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development and environmental protection. Noting that the one of the roles of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is to encourage all initiatives launched by ICT companies to implement environmentally friendly policies and push for building a greener economy.
Talaat also pointed out that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has many initiatives to support eco-friendly policies and preserve natural resources. This includes replacing copper cables with fiber-optic cables and implementing mechanisms to establish mobile towers and marine landing stations using renewable energy, in addition to stimulating and accelerating green technological innovation. Furthermore, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the MOICT will provide technical support in preparation for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27), as well as adapting ICT solutions to preserve the environment.
Her Excellency Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, corroborated the strategic partnership with Vodafone Egypt partnership in various environmental activities and projects carried out by the Ministry to protect the Egyptian environment and raise environmental awareness in line with the "Go Green" campaign to spread environmental awareness under the President’s direction. Fouad expressed her hope that this cooperation will pave the way for a larger number of private sector companies to incorporate greener practices and environmental conservation as part of their corporate social responsibility towards their local communities. She emphasized the significance of the collaboration between government agencies and the business community in the areas of environmental conservation, climate change awareness, and environmental challenges.

The most important one of them is the ‘E-Tadweer’ project for the recycling and safe disposal of electronic waste as Vodafone Egypt adopts a system to safeguard the environment and reduce carbon emissions in all of its branches and retail outlets. The system includes the use of digital wait times and bills to cut down on paper printing inside the branches and the substitution of plastic bags with paper bags.
It is worth mentioning that Vodafone Egypt and the Vodafone Egypt Foundation are working to launch a number of diverse initiatives, which would contribute to the efforts in combatting climate change and achieving a sustainable digital ecosystem. Since then, the company has eliminated all non-essential plastics in all its facilities and branches, as well as replacing old light bulbs with energy-saving bulbs, saving about 940 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Vodafone Egypt has built a solar power plant in Beni Suef to manage their data centers, reducing emissions by about 71 tons annually, Vodafone also covered the roofs of the main building with solar photovoltaic panels, which will contribute to reducing about 135 tons of emissions annually.

VOIS, a subsidiary of Vodafone International, signed a cooperation protocol with the British University in Egypt to offer training programs for students and graduates alike in various departments of the company to get to know the operations inside of the company and benefit from the experience of the employees there. This will help to plug the gap between learning in schools and experience in work, as well as open up the opportunities to employ special graduates after they complete university.
This protocol comes as part of the CSR efforts of VOIS that aim to offer training programs and preparing students for the employment market by expanding their skills and operational know how as well as affording employment opportunities inside the company. Vodafone Egypt launches the largest summer training program for students for 2022

Vodafone Egypt launched its summer training program in 2022 for students of different universities and fresh graduates, which is considered the largest training program offered by significant companies in Egypt. The program aims to help students gain work experience in various departments, and qualify them to cope with the challenges of working in the field of communications and information technology, develop their digital capabilities and qualify them to compete in the field of modern technologies.

Vodafone Signs A New Partnership Agreement with El-Araby Group to Provide Communication Digital Solutions to Factories

Vodafone Egypt signed a new partnership with El-Araby Group; the leaders in electronic home appliances in Egypt and the Middle East, to support digital transformation in factories and production lines and to develop the technology used. This partnership confirms Vodafone Egypt's strategy to support companies and the business sector by providing technological solutions that contribute to raising efficiency and improving the products and services provided.
The partnership was signed by Eng. Medhat El-Araby, Executive Vice President of El-Araby Group, and Mohamed Abdullah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt. In the presence of Mahmoud Al-Khatib, Business Unit Director at Vodafone Egypt, Mr. Amjad Nafeh, Head of the Companies Department, and Noha Saad, Head of External Communications and Media Department at Vodafone Egypt, Eng. The signing took place at the company’s headquarters and factories in Quesna, Menoufeya, followed by a visit to the factories to learn more about production lines and manufacturing methods and explore potential collaborations to digitize the manufacturing process and achieve higher efficiency. They also discussed future expansion plans and how using information technology and digital solutions can contribute to the development of factory systems and enable El-Araby Group to maintain its leadership in manufacturing and marketing electronic and home appliances.

WATCH IT and Vodafone: A New Partnership Bringing Endless Content to Flex Subscribers

Vodafone Egypt signed an agreement with United Media Services to provide “Flex” subscribers with endless content in partnership with WATCH IT App, Egypt’s Leading VOD platform, a subsidiary of UMS. The agreement comes in alignment with Vodafone Egypt’s strategy aiming at providing unparalleled experience and the newest entertainment services and digital content to their customers.
The partnership is expected to contribute to WATCH IT’s access to the largest possible number of FLEX users who represent the broad base of Vodafone Egypt customers which occupies the largest market share of the Egyptian mobile market by 40% of the total mobile users in Egypt.
The partnership was signed by Nashwa Gad, Chairman and Managing Director of United Digital Services – WATCH IT, Karim Eid, Consumer Marketing and Sales Director of Vodafone Egypt, in the presence of Mr. Hassan Abdullah, Chairman of United Media Services and Mr. Mohamed Abdullah, CEO and Managing Director of Vodafone Egypt.
Mr. Hassan Abdullah, Chairman of United Media Services stated that the collaboration with Vodafone Egypt comes within the current methodology of UMS, which aims to open up the market and expand the scope of cooperation and partnership agreements to allow the dissemination of purposeful and entertaining content through the various available digital media. United Media Services also aims to provide all kinds of content, including digital, for all segments of users.
“This agreement comes in light of their new pursued strategy in general development and dissemination plan in order to ensure and provide entertainment and educational content for all. Vodafone Egypt contributed EGP 500 m to social development projects

Ayman Essam, the External Affairs and Legal Director in Vodafone Egypt, said Vodafone Egypt contributed about EGP 500 million for social development projects from which 11 million Egyptians.
During the 12th Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development (12th CSR Forum), Essam said companies cannot work alone to realize comprehensive development in communities, but all parties concerned should join forces to serve this goal.
He noted that more than 50 percent of rural inhabitants work in the agricultural sector and this has prompted Vodafone Egypt to search for smart solutions to facilitate irrigation via mobile phones through connection with the internet of things (IoT), thus contributing to improving the quality of crops.
Vodafone Egypt Foundation launched an educational platform offering digital content of school curricula in addition to providing schools with internet services to have an integrated mechanism of online education.

Ebny Real Estate Partners with Vodafone

Vodafone Egypt signs a new partnership agreement with Ebny Real Estate to provide services and technological solutions for smart communities in the Greene Avenue project in Sohag, Invest-Gate reports.
This partnership aims to provide smart services Home Compound, which provides high-speed Internet in Upper Egypt of 200 megabytes for the 1st time, STTH, and fixed phone.
Kareem Eid, Consumer Business Director at Vodafone Egypt, says that the company seeks to establish strategic partnerships with various authorities and companies, in order to develop infrastructure and spread various communication services.

10 million beneficiaries in first phase of Egypt’s university hospital automation project: Health Ministry

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar — the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population and the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals — said that the number of beneficiaries in the first phase of the university hospital automation project is 10 million.
This phase includes 80 university hospitals nationwide.
He made his statement on Monday during a ceremony in which Vodafone Egypt signed a cooperation agreement with Delta Electronic Systems to implement the first phase of the university hospital automation project across the country.
Abdel Ghaffar said that the first phase of the project includes five hospitals affiliated with Al-Azhar University and was commissioned by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Khaled Abdel Ghaffar — the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population.
He added that the project aims to develop a complete electronic system for the patient’s journey to receive treatment and create a unified electronic file for transfer between service providers in the governorates
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat pointed out that his ministry is working with the higher education ministry to implement multiple projects in order to build an integrated digital society, including Egypt’s digital innovation centres within universities as well as the opening of the Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) in the New Administrative Capital.
Talaat explained that the university hospital automation project is a dedication to the fruitful cooperation between the two ministries, especially as it aims to automate the health care system and create a unified medical file for Egyptian citizens through which they can receive treatment from any hospital affiliated with the higher education ministry.
He stated that the project includes automating the distribution of patients in hospitals, linking different departments and purchases, in addition to issuing a set of reports and statistics to help researchers with patients’ data and demographic patterns, as well as identifying types of diseases.
Talaat also stated that the first phase of the project covers 80 hospitals affiliated with about 12 universities
Abdel Ghaffar said that cooperation with the communications ministry has been ongoing for more than three years in the areas of digital transformation.
He added that the government seeks to digitise all services in light of this era.
Mohamed Abdallah — the Managing Director and CEO of Vodafone Egypt — pointed out that the project comes within the framework of Egypt’s 2030 Vision, stressing that his company is keen to establish strategic partnerships with government agencies to support the country’s strategy in digital transformation.

Vodafone is the first telecom company to receive the ISO 50001 certification for its energy management system.

In light of Vodafone's global strategy to rationalize energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to preserve the environment, Vodafone Egypt received the ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems, becoming one of the first leading companies in the telecommunications sector in Africa and the Middle East to obtain this certificate for implementing the best systems in energy management and rationalization in all its facilities, whether administrative buildings, data centers, as well as branches.
This is in line with the government's directives to implement environmental sustainability standards as part of Egypt's Vision 2030, as well as the country's hosting of the upcoming Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, or "COP 27," in Sharm El Sheikh, as well as Vodafone Egypt's commitment to its customers and belief in the significance of protecting the environment and establishing an integrated work system that puts Its priorities to rationalize the use of and reduce the consumption of energy.
Vodafone Egypt was awarded the ISO 50001 certificate after applying standards that would reduce energy waste by collecting the necessary data to make better decisions related to energy use, implementing modern energy-saving technologies, in addition to improving productivity through better energy use, and putting a specific energy use policy by setting achievable goals and designing action plans to reach and measure them.
