Vodafone sponsors “S3Geeks Upper Egypt Tech Train” Initiative
Vodafone Egypt sponsors and supports the 2012 “S3Geeks Tech Train”, which aims to spread technological awareness and to forge connections with the Upper Egypt’s youth who are into ICT, and entrepreneurship. Eng. Mohammed Al-Ayouti, Vodafone Xone Senior Manager, stated that Vodafone is keen to sponsor this promising initiative to promote and support Egyptian youth, help them implement their innovative ideas, and disseminate technological awareness among them. Vodafone is keen on supporting youth who seek to implement and finance their projects via providing guidance, consultations and funding. It supports start-ups and removes all obstacles that might hinder them as they launch their startups.
He added that, “Being a leading company in the Egyptian Internet market, it is our duty to provide young technical entrepreneurs with all possible support. Those youth can promote their local communities, which will have a positive impact on the society as a whole”. He stressed that the initiative aims to develop technical knowhow, enrich Arabic content on the internet, promote entrepreneurship among university students and fresh graduates, and empowers them with the technological tools which will boost their market competitiveness and promote their start-ups. He further added that Vodafone has set certain goals for this initiative, amongst which are; to promote entrepreneurship in a bid to fight unemployment, provide new job opportunities, and help establish and develop new projects to forge the Egyptian economy ahead.
Al-Ayouti stated that Vodafone’s success in the Youth and Entrepreneurship Support Initiatives came through Vodafone Xone. It provides financing and incubation for innovative projects, holding contests to discover talents, and has launched a developer portal to stay in touch with them. Vodafone Xone aims at helping young entrepreneurs achieve prominent visibility in the technological market, through supporting and empowering small start-ups and encouraging them to work, toil and innovate to help their projects flourish.

With over 2.5 Million Users on Facebook, Vodafone precedes other Telecom Companies’ Fan Pages in Europe, the Middle East and Africa
Cairo, January 15th 2013 – In celebration of its Facebook fan page reaching over 2.5 million users, Vodafone Egypt organized an event honoring its most frequent users, recognizing them for helping the page reach its leading status amongst other telecom companies, and awarding them for becoming ambassadors to the page on the social media network.
The Vodafone fan page has reached over 2.5 ranking it as the first in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the third worldwide amongst other telecom pages on Facebook. Moreover, it is amongst the leading pages on Twitter in Egypt and Africa, and is also one of the top 10 telecom pages worldwide, and has generated great success in terms of users on Google+.
Socialbakers, a social media analytics platform, stated that Vodafone was successful at maintaining communication with its fan base on Facebook and Twitter, helping it reach its current status with the highest visitors and users on Social Media networks; furthermore, it has achieved an unprecedented increase on" YouTube” whereas the viewers of its films has risen from 500 thousand viewers to 4 million in August 2012.
Mr. Tarek Nabil, Online Director of Vodafone Egypt, stated that the company has achieved this success because of its users’ trust and the services provided on the page, and that all company employees appreciate this trust and communication with the page users. He added that this was proven after the page reached 1 million fans in December 2011, and that the Vodafone Facebook page was the first in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa to reach such a fan base, whereas numbers had gone from 2 million in October of 2012 to 2.5 million in January of this year.
Tarek Nabil also noted that the interest of Vodafone Egypt in social media stems from the company’s concern for its customers; hence, it focuses on three factors namely communicating directly with customers and providing them with the ultimate services, technological support and showcasing the company’s services.
It is also important to note that Vodafone is a leader in social networking amongst other telecom companies as it seeks to constantly provide its customers in and outside Egypt with the best services. It began in July 2008 by offering customer service, noticing that the response was significantly high and ultimately increasing the number of fans on the page. From then on, the Vodafone management team decided to put all relevant departments in
action, namely Public Relations, Sales and Customer Service, which led to more positive feedback with internet users leading Vodafone to reach its current pioneer status today.

Vodafone Egypt signed an agreement with Pharco Group Pharmaceuticals to provide them with voice and internet services to over 5700 of their employees, this becoming the exclusive telecom and internet provider of the group.
This agreement comes in parallel to Vodafone’s leadership in the Egyptian telecom and internet market, which in turn reflects the confidence major corporations have in the company’s competence, and its ability to provide them with the most advanced telecom and internet facilities, helping them further develop their scope of work and communicate with their customers using the most advanced technological methods.
Mr. Khaled Riyad, Director of Sales Vodafone Egypt, stated that reason key corporations select Vodafone as their telecom and internet provider is due to their confidence in the company’s ability to provide the best and most advanced services, to both corporations and individuals alike. He also highlighted that Vodafone has a portfolio of achievements and projects with numerous companies in Egypt, and that is due to its cutting-edge services and solutions for the increasing demands in different economic sectors.
He also added that the agreement includes building the technical infrastructure at Pharco Group Pharmaceuticals in Alexandria,, in addition to providing technical and customer support to the project. He added that Alexandria is of major importance to Vodafone, as it is a city where the company has had major achievements, and has established partnerships with several corporations.
He shed light on Pharco Group stating that is the second largest pharmaceuticals company in Egypt with over 5700 employees, and has sold over 345 million pharmaceutical units in 2011, giving it a market share of about 13.2%. Furthermore, it exports to more than 75 countries worldwide and focuses on ensuring patients’ safety and at very reasonable prices.

At a joyous event that took place amongst thousands of customers, Vodafone Egypt celebrated the distribution of prizes for its contest for prepaid customers, which was launched in March 2013.
The object of the contest is that every time a customer recharges his prepaid card with 10 LE or more, they get a part of the prize, such as “MO” which is part of the word “MOBILE”. With every charge, an SMS will be sent with the rest of the word until the contestant collects all the parts and becomes qualified for the prize. The contest includes thousands of prizes such as mobile phones, refrigerators, laptops and LCD TVs, and the grand prize is a BMW X1 and the first winner is Mr. Tawfik Hamdy.
Mr. Mohamed Kamal Abdullah, Head of Consumer Marketing, stated that “Vodafone is constantly on the lookout for the best and most unbeatable offers for its customers to commit to its leadership in mobile services in Egypt and worldwide. He affirmed that the Scratch Card Contest concept was introduced to meet the demands of a large and important sector of Vodafone's clients, as it allowed all prepaid card customers, namely Easy, Extra and Business Control, to participate in the offer and enjoy endless unique services from Vodafone including the chance to win prizes.” He added that the contest is ongoing until May18th 2013, and that there is still an opportunity for thousands of customers to win more prizes.

Vodafone Egypt honors the young pharaohs team for their achievement in qualifying for the U-20 FIFA World Cup 2013
Vodafone Egypt, the official sponsor of Egyptian football, organized an event during which they honored the U-20 Egyptian national team for their achievement in qualifying for the U-20 FIFA World Cup 2013 in Turkey.
The event was attended by the Minister of Sports Mr. El-Amry Farouk, Mr. Gamal Allam, the Head of the Egyptian Football Association and its members, in addition to a number of Egyptian football celebrities who came to congratulate the team on their accomplishment. Moreover, the coaches of the national team attended including Bob Bradley, Khaled Al Darandaly, Captain Farouk Gaafar, Captain Gamal Abdel Hamid and Captain Hossam Ghaly in addition to numerous prominent football figures in Egypt.
Captain Islam El Shater introduced the event, and Minister of Sports Mr. El-Amry Farouk gave a speech thanking the Football Association and Vodafone for sponsoring football in Egypt, highlighting the efforts they have exerted in this field. Furthermore, he called on all authorities and organizations to support the Egyptian national teams as it helps in the development of sports in Egypt.
Mr. Hatem Dowidar, CEO Vodafone Egypt, welcomed the attendees and thanked them for their continuous support to the national team, and to football – the most popular sport in Egypt. He added that Vodafone began its partnership with sports in 2002 when it sponsored the Egyptian football association, followed by Al Ahly team, and then renewed its partnership with the football association in 2011. This partnership is one which Vodafone is very proud to be a part of, and is keen on providing all the needed support to develop the Egyptian football system to reach its desired position in the field.
Dowidar added “we are proud to sponsor the young pharaohs team; they won the Africa Cup of Nations for the fourth time which brought a lot of happiness to the hearts of Egyptians and gave use hope for achieving honorable results in the U-20 World Cup. Dowidar confirmed that Vodafone constantly supports national teams in achieving victory, and wished the team all the best in its upcoming journey in June in Turkey at the World Cup.
Dowidar affirmed that for the past 15 years, Vodafone has been persistently pursuing its belief of actively partnering with the community in which it operates in, and supporting all that is futuristic in order to achieve this success. He added that from this perspective, Vodafone sponsors and supports the football association’s official football championships, as well the national teams.

A unique event during which all visitors were overwhelmed with the offers bestowed upon them
Vodafone inaugurated its first service branch in Sheikh Zayed City, 6th of October, with a very unique event that astounded visitors. Located in Seoudi Hyper Market, the new Vodafone outlet offers new services including technical support for mobile phones and smart phones, as well as a display of the latest and best selling mobile devices in the Egyptian market. Furthermore, the new branch features relatively new designs and unconventional display options through which customers can view the latest technology and children’s applications on mobile phones and tablets.
In his welcome speech to the attendees of the inauguration event, Eng Hatem Dowidar, CEO and Managing Director Vodafone Egypt, stated that Vodafone Egypt continues with its expansion plan in the Egyptian market planning on covering all governorates of Egypt with the aims of reaching all its customers and providing them with the ultimate services through the branches. Moreover, he added that the Sheikh Zayed branch is a unique addition to customer service, adding to Vodafone’s leadership in the market.
Mr. Karim Eid, Retail Outlets Manager, elaborated on Vodafone’s expansion plan by affirming that the number of current Vodafone outlets has reached over 250 branches spread all over Egypt’s governorates, and that the total of subscribers and clients who have visited the branches in one month reached over 1.5 million – the highest number of customer services in Egypt. He added that the company plans to open 30 new branches such as the Sheikh Zayed one by the end of this year.
Attendees of the event included senior management from Vodafone Egypt as well as its top customers, media representatives and partners from different sectors, to whom Vodafone presented exiting offers.

Vodafone Egypt Partners with the Coptic Evangelical Organization to execute the initiative in Cairo, Qalyubia, Beni Suef and Minya

Cairo, June 2013 – Vodafone Egypt Foundation for Community Development signed an agreement for a new partnership with the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, which is set to become a main active partner taking part in the Knowledge is Power initiative first introduced and launched by Vodafone Foundation. The aim of this partnership is to reach the maximum number of illiterates in different governorates, and in collaboration with the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education (GALAE), cooperate with more civil society organizations that are specialized in the eradication of illiteracy.
Eng Mohamed Henna, Managing Director Vodafone Egypt Foundation for Community Development, confirmed that eradicating illiteracy will better position Egypt and push it to the right direction in terms of better manpower and development. Henna added that Vodafone Foundation has already commenced business with the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services in four governorates namely Cairo, Qalyubia, Beni Suef and Minya targeting ages 14 to 45 years. Vodafone’s role is to provide the necessary financial support to the initiative to help improve living standards for over 40,000 people through teaching them how to read and write, after which their awareness and education levels will have progressed fulfilling exactly what Egypt needs at this time and over the next period.
Eng Hatem Dowidar, CEO and board member of Vodafone Foundation clarified that Vodafone Egypt is proud to be the leading organization in corporate responsibility in Egypt, and verified that the company follows a clear national strategy initially aiming at communicating with all segments of the society about their problems, and offering practical solutions to achieve the greatest possible development and increase the pace of progress.
On a separate note, Dr. Andrea Zaki, Chairman of the Coptic Evangelical Organization, expressed his gratitude to Vodafone for its support and said “our partnership is anticipated to bring more success to both parties as we strive towards creating a better Egypt and fulfilling the people’s hopes for life, freedom and social justice.
Margaret Sarofim, Head of Local Development at the Coptic Evangelical Organization, stated “we are honored to be partnering with Vodafone Egypt Foundation to work on the Knowledge is Power initiative in the governorates of Minya, Beni Suef, Cairo and Qalyubia, and we are very determined and optimistic about this initiative playing a key role in lowering the rates of illiteracy and paving the way to a better life for the poor and marginalized community.
Regarding the results of the pilot phase of the Knowledge is Power initiative, Nihad El Ghamry, CSR and Foundation Manager, stated “with the help of Sonaa Al Hayah, the pilot phase bared positive results in nine governorates namely Cairo, Giza, Beni Suef, Suez, Alexandria, Sohag, Minya, Monofeya and Sharkeya, whereas over 128,000 illiterates registered for the Knowledge is Power classes with over 93,000 succeeded at completing the program. Moreover, more than 15,000 volunteers took part in the pilot phase creating and managing over 900,000 illiteracy eradication classes all over Egypt. Additionally, Vodafone Egypt seized the opportunity to develop the first mobile application for illiteracy eradication to help the students in studying and develop their skills.
