Egypt in the late 90’s was a very different place
We knew this firsthand because we were there for our customers, under the brand name Click GSM, at a time when a simple phone call between two people on the go was considered a novelty. A time when photos were taken with cameras, physical maps were used to navigate, dial-up connections were necessary to check email, and the words social and media were never used in the same sentence.
In 2002, Vodafone as a brand entered the Egyptian market
By that time, it was clear that society was on the cusp of massive change and that telecoms were going to be one of the fastest growing industries of the global economy, but no one could have quite predicted the transformational nature that connectivity would have on our lives. The years between 2000-2009, were a time of rapid growth for our company and for the Egyptian economy, and we’re extremely proud to have been an integral component of that development.
Since then, we’ve invested more than EGP 100 billion in Egypt.
That investment wasn’t just a boom for the economy, it also made a tangible difference to the lives of more than 50 million Vodafone customers that we serve daily. As the company grew, we made sure that we remained a responsible investor and taxpayer, working alongside the government to set a new standard for transparency and integrity. We’ve also heavily invested hundreds of millions over the years to protect our customers’ data privacy and information.
