Our Journey

Egypt in the late 90’s was a very different place. We knew this firsthand because we were there for our customers, under the brand name Click GSM, at a time when a simple phone call between two people on the go was considered a novelty. A time when photos were taken with cameras, physical maps were used to navigate, dial-up connections were necessary to check email, and the words social and media were never used in the same sentence. In 2002, Vodafone as a brand entered the Egyptian market. By that time, it was clear that society was on the cusp of massive change and that telecoms were going to be one of the fastest growing industries of the global economy, but no one could have quite predicted the transformational nature that connectivity would have on our lives. The years between 2000-2009, were a time of rapid growth for our company and for the Egyptian economy, and we’re extremely proud to have been an integral component of that development. Since then, we’ve invested more than EGP 100 billion in Egypt. That investment wasn’t just a boom for the economy, it also made a tangible difference to the lives of more than 50 million Vodafone customers that we serve daily. As the company grew, we made sure that we remained a responsible investor and taxpayer, working alongside the government to set a new standard for transparency and integrity. We’ve also heavily invested hundreds of millions over the years to protect our customers’ data privacy and information. In 2003, we were the first to establish a Foundation as our eyes and ears on the ground. Through the Vodafone Egypt Foundation we’ve proudly invested more than EGP 700 million in high impact projects that have now improved the lives of 11 million Egyptians in our communities. For 25 years, as technology evolved and mobile connectivity became less of a novelty and more of a necessity, we listened to our customers to deliver the services they needed at the right time. It wasn’t about being the first to introduce a service; it was about having the right service to meet the needs of our customers. From introducing a warm human touch in our customer greetings to launching SMS services for their convenience. Our renowned “Kalemny & Salefny Shokran” services were a direct response to customers’ need to reach out to others when they needed a top- up. Vodafone Cash wasn’t just a pioneering service in the market; it was our commitment to foster financial inclusion across Egypt ,no matter where or who our customers are. We also recognized early on that it’s not one size fits all as far as customers are concerned, so we introduced customizable bundles for voice and data along with entertainment services once streaming became the standard for consuming media. And we are supporting our business customers by developing fixed connectivity and digital solutions to accelerate their growth. Not only the large enterprises, but also thriving SMEs during uncertain times. Maintaining this close relationship with our customer base and being in tune with their evolving needs has always been the reason behind everything we do.

Our business support extends beyond catering to large big enterprises; we are equally committed to assisting small businesses and equipping them with the digital resources needed to strive. We are devoted to uplifting all socioeconomic groups, ensuring equal access to essential health and education services by enhancing digital skills among students, and improving the quality of public healthcare nationwide. We envision a future where every Egyptian, irrespective of their background, has the chance to thrive in a more connected world. Our purpose is to connect for a better future. So now, what’s Next? We’re fully aware that the rules of the game are changing fast. With the rapid developments in AI and the fact that Gen Z digital natives will soon make up the largest proportion of our customer base, we know that we are about to witness another major shift in the way we do things, not just in the telecom sector but in all facets of our lives. This new customer base cannot begin to comprehend what life was like before the internet and mobile phones. Being online is the window to their world and an essential component of their livelihood. If they’re not connected, they have no access to information, entertainment, shopping, financial services, or their social network. And in most instances, their education and professional careers depend on being online. Customers in this day and age require flawless experience, and secure, high-speed connectivity everywhere, all the time. They will also hold us accountable not just as a service provider but as a responsible corporate citizen, and their loyalty is harder to win. We know that now is the time to evolve for them and with them to shape the future for the new digital world; to evolve from merely being a connectivity provider into an integrated lifestyle partner.

OUR STRATEGY

Our strategy has been evolving in much the same way that our customers’ lives have evolved. Many of our customers have been with us for the entire 25-year journey and will remember how it felt to make that first phone call on the go, while others have only experienced the era of smart phones. Regardless of their age, their journey or their individual needs, our strategy is inclusive and expansive, and goes beyond mere connectivity. We aim to cater to the diverse needs of our customers, meeting them wherever they wish to go today and in the future. We’re setting the benchmark high, once again, by continuing to be the provider of functional and reliable connectivity and technology that enables our customers to stay connected anytime, anywhere, through a network they can trust. We will keep investing in the growth of our next gen network and tech platforms through the modernization of our infrastructure. Since the launch of our first-generation services up to the rollout of 4G, we have committed EGP 30 billion to develop our infrastructure and we plan to rapidly grow our network investments in the next decade to maintain our leadership and prepare for Egypt’s 5G future. Putting our customers first means understanding their life’s rhythms and needs. Whether it’s providing value-packed mobile bundles or enriching their lives with premium content, we’ve put a lot of thought into how we can expand our value beyond connectivity to better serve the needs of our customers.
